Pillows

Here are a few of our recent pillow projects at the studio. This zebra print pillow was for a client who had extra fabric left over from a bar stool project.

Remember the curtains with the cool twisted rods we posted at Christmastime? These pillows were made from leftover fabric for that project.

A client brought this project in to be reworked...it had been sewn elsewhere but the fabric was slipping around instead of fitting snugly around the pillow form. A tweak here and there and voila! They are as good as new.

Thought For the Day

"Rest when you're weary. Refresh and renew yourself, your body, your mind, your spirit. Then get back to work."-- Ralph Marston

This quote really spoke to me as a small business person! I recently made a "personal" goal for myself for the 1st time in about 5years - I'm trying to learn how to "take time" for myself as well as the business!

It's definitely a challenge - but I know it's worth it! I won't be able to run my business & create beauty if I'm drained on a personal level! Here's to YOU! Make sure to take time for yourself!

Thought For The Day
"Here's to the crazy ones. The misfits. The rebels. The
troublemakers. The round pegs in the square holes. The ones
who see things differently. They're not fond of rules. And
they have no respect for the status quo. You can quote them,
disagree with them, glorify or vilify them. About the only
thing you can't do is ignore them. Because they change things.
They push the human race forward. And while some may see them
as the crazy ones, we see genius. Because the people who are
crazy enough to think they can change the world, are the ones
who do."

you'll never be hurt, sing like there's nobody listening, and

Color Trends 2012

We here at Cord & Pleat Design strive to stay updated on current color trends in order to offer you the latest in fashion for your home decor! Here's a sample of the newest trends for 2012.

As you can see, color is IN this season! It can be broken down into three main categories.

  • Bright colors
  • Earth tones (neutrals)
  • Pastels (muted palette)

Bright Colors

Pantone's feature this season - their "Color of the Year" - is a vivid star of the bright colors palette. Tangerine tango is exciting, attention-grabbing, and a fun way to be trendy this year.

With the economy slowly improving, bright colors are making a comeback! From clothing to appliances, makeup & jewelry to home decor, a cheery burst of color can now be found around every corner. Choose carefully, though! I would suggest using this palette as an accent for a surprising "pop" of color. (I love the berry red, and the brighter versions of my favorite colors: blue and green!)

Earth Tones (Neutrals)

Earth tones are the season's neutrals. Homey and soothing, this palette is easy to implement and create a more trend-conscious look for your home that has a lasting effect! While it is much less dramatic than the bright colors popular this season, neutrals will go out of style much more slowly and therefore, can be used on a larger scale. These earth tones give a sense of warmth and security that can be a comforting haven from the hustle and bustle of life.

Pastel (muted palette)

Similar to neutrals, these muted palettes are a more conservative and stable way to add color to your life. Less exciting perhaps, but unlike their bright counterparts - and much like the earth tones/neutrals - these colors are much easier to use on a large scale.

My dear friend who loves lavender will be delighted to see it being used in this year's color palettes! Marilie is a fan, as well. This look is very French-inspired and calming.

Sometimes it doesn't take much to change the look of a space. An accent pillow in bright cheerful colors, maybe a fresh coat of paint, or a bit of rearranging what you already have in a room can make a world of difference. (Perhaps even a new window treatment? Hint, hint!)
